Consequently, the city of Trapani is the fifth urban area of Sicily by population.
The city has developed over time a thriving economic activity linked to the extraction and trade of salt, take advantage of his natural position, projected on the Mediterranean, and its famous harbor. Other important activities were – and still are – Fisheries (especially the tuna), the extraction and trade of marble, working with the coral. Trapani is characterized by the typical Mediterranean climate, consisting of rare cold winters and hot summers.The city of Trapani is the fourteenth among 27 cities decorated with gold medal for patriotic action made by the city during the period called “Risorgimento”.
